The Toyota Matrix is a fun car that was a great platform to show off an Al & Ed’s Xtreme installation. Its bright red paint with white graphic is eye catching, and the rear-view camera feeding the image of show-going onlookers into the rear monitor always gathers a crowd.

Installation

The vehicle’s interior was completely stripped, and Dynamat sound deadening material was applied. The center of the dashboard was completely reformed out of fiberglass to mount the Alpine head unit and monitor. Both door panels were highly modified to accept the Alpine Type-R components. Installation of monitors in the front-seat headrests required that refoaming of the headrests. The entire interior was covered in a rich, red on black leather interior. The rear storage area was fitted with custom, fiberglass encolsures for the two Alpine 12inch subwoofers, and an amp display rack holds the three Alpine V12 amplifiers. The body kit was painted to match the factory red painting. The car was lowered with Eibach springs, and Falken 19inch wheels and tires were added. Finally, the custom white graphics and logos were applied to finish off one of our most popular show cars.

The Design

The paint scheme on this FJ and the quilted upholstery pays tribute to those vehicles. What was cool then, can be cool again. Of course, since many of these FJ Cruisers will find their way to beach camp-outs, a tail-gate monitor was necessary for late-night movie watching. Trick wheels, big fat tires and an awesome Al & Ed’s sound system finish this vehicle off nicely.

Installation

The factory radio was replaced with an Alpine IVAW200 multi-media station. Whether the driver wants to listen to his iPod or satellite radio, or play movies to the tailgate monitor, this unit does it all. The doors were completely rebuilt to house a set of Alpine Type-R speakers, while the custom amp and sub enclosures trick out the rear. The vehicle’s interior was sent out for a retro-inspired, quilted leather upgrade. Subtle paint treatments on the roof and the dashboard and other trim panels make the vehicle visually interesting without being overpowering. Wheels and tires were bolted on, and the vehicle received a perfect tint job.

Design

The FJ is a happy vehicle in it’s bright yellow and white top paint scheme. It gets smiles and thumbs-up wherever it goes, especially riding on the custom wheels and tires. Wherever you go, you’re surrounded by great music, while the navigation system insures that you’re never lost. Swing the back tailgate open and enjoy some XBox action on the big-screen TV.
Installation

The FJ was completely stripped and Dynamat brand sound deadening material was applied. Monster Cable interconnects and power wire hook everything up. The Alpine head unit replaces the factory Toyota radio. The Alpine Blackbird-2 portable navigation device slides into the radio and becomes the source for on-screen navigation while docked. A custom amplifier and subwoofer enclosure was fabricated from fiberglass, and painted to match the exterior of the vehicle. A Vizio 32″ color LCD television was molded into the back tailgate for the ultimate in tailgating. The XBox was flushed into the rear of the vehicle for easy access for the gamers.
