Back in 2006 when these amazing super cars were just barely hitting the streets Al & Eds Autosound in West Hollywood, CA were one of the first to customize an SLR. Mercedes-Benz took some of their finest Formula 1 technology and made it available for consumers to enjoy. Unfortunately for those individuals the stereo system was obviously an after thought and came from the parts bin of a C class. Here is what we did to make it an AE Edition…

The factory radio was replaced by Alpine’s top of the line am/fm/iPod interface. No CD mechanism on this radio. Enjoy your iPod and even the album art on the 2″ screen.

The factory 3-way speaker were replaced with MB Quart “Q” Series components.

For bass a Pioneer shallow 10″ subwoofer was custom installed in the passenger foot well area with no loss of any legroom.

To power the system two Alpine PDX Series amplifiers totaling over 1,200 watts of power were custom installed in the trunk. Inspiration from all the carbon fiber used in the car and the illumination of the taillights were recreated to complete the amplifier installation display.

This is not your ordinary CL65. This one has performance upgrades from Renntech and an audio system that’s amazing!

20″ HRE wheels custom painted in black with Michellin tires

K40 radar detector with front & rear laser defusers

All the interior wood panels have been upgraded to carbon fiber including a sportier steering wheel

Alpine 7″ touch screen IVA-W205 was custom molded into the dash and plays am/fm/cd/dvd/iPod/XM/navigation & back up camera 

Focal Utopia Be Kit No7 three way component speakers were installed in the front doors

Focal K2 Power series speakers were installed in the rear

JL Audio W6 series 12″ subwoofer was installed in a “free air” style in the trunk

Three Alpine PDX  series amplifiers totaling over 2200 watts were custom installed in the trunk to power the system

Pioneer slim 10″ subwoofer in a custom fiberglas enclosure installed in the passenger foot well. No legroom was lost.

Focal 165KRX3 3-way component speakers. The tweeters were molded in a carbon fiber pod.

Two Alpine PDX series digital amplifiers totalling over 1200 watts of power were custom installed and displayed with carbon fiber and red leather in the trunk.
